I’ve been involved in quite a few discussion about the merits of blogging. A lot of arguments are thrown around, blogging is the ‘in thing’, they have a blog so we need to have one, it’s great for search engine optimisation etc. But after going through Technorati’s State of the Blogosphere 2008 (a report on all things blogging) one particular chart stuck out.
Types of Advertising and Content that Entice Bloggers to learn more about Products and Services

Bloggers, an ever growing community of online-users, value blogs significantly higher than online advertising and even official website content when learning about new products. Simply put, if you don’t have a blog, an authentic blog with useful, and quality content (not a gimmicky, SEO-fodder, keyword-stuffed marketing ploy), you’re at a disadvantage when it comes to promoting your product online.
So if you are considering a blog, keeping in mind that it’s something that takes time to build and grow, this is a pretty solid argument for making the required investment in time and effort.
