Getting Past 'Boring'
The UK-based flights/entertainment provider Lastminute.co.uk have recently launched a free iPhone application called NRU. The app uses Augmented Reality (a combination of real world and computer generated information) to show you nearby restaurants and entertainment venues. Take a look at this video to see how it works:
Being part of a highly competitive and undifferentiated industry, it’s quite easy to stay stuck on ‘boring’. To focus on cheaper prices, a wider range of flights/hotels/restaurants and a better online registration form. This stuff is important but it’s unlikely to be perceived as exciting. It’s commendable that Lastminute has pushed through this ‘boring’ barrier and created something noteworthy, innovative and most importantly useful.
So what?
Are you stuck focusing on the boring stuff? Are you convinced that your company/brand/product doesn’t have room for anything exciting or innovative? You’re right of course….till your competitor proves you wrong.
