2008 Spread Betting Search Patterns
Google provides some interesting insights as to the search patterns for ‘spread betting’ in the UK. The following chart shows the general trend in search volume for the year so far.
This has been mostly flat with the expected spikes around major economic events and news. Significantly though we can see a major downturn in November. It could be that the tougher economic times are finally impacting the number of prospective spread betting clients.
Top Spread Betting Related Search Terms
The following are the top 6 ‘spread betting’ related search terms.

- ig index
- cmc spread betting
As might be expected IG Index features heavily as the industry leader. Although CMC Markets holds a clear 2nd position to IG above other spread betting providers. Finally we can look at which terms have experienced the greatest increase in search volumes in 2008 compared to the same period in 2007.
- cmc spread betting – +80%
- ig – +50%
This ties in neatly with the top related search volume, we can see that CMC has had a huge 80% increase in search volume, no doubt due to heavy advertising over the past year.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see these figures at the end of next year, if CMC continues it’s stratospheric search growth rate it will put IG Index under even greater pressure.
